Text Message Marketing

What is Text Message Marketing (SMS)?

Text message marketing is being used all around us. It’s one of the top mediums for reaching customers as it boasts nearly a 95% open rate which is incredible when compared to direct mail or e-mail. The high open rates make sense if you think about it. People always have their mobile phones with them and nearly always check their text messages within moments of receiving them.

SMS Drives Traffic Fast!

However, unlike cold mailing or cold e-mailing text message marketing is permission based, as customers have to opt-in to your sms list to receive your promotional texts. Customers typically opt-in by texting a keyword to a five digit number known as a short code.  If you haven’t seen it before, let’s say an establishment is looking to drive more customer traffic to it’s location on days when it is slow. Such establishment could put out an offer through various marketing mediums such as print, mail, tv or radio. Such offer could be a drawing to win free tickets to an upcoming show. Then the sms campaign would be set for interested parties to text the word “show” to the number “12345” for a chance to win a pair of tickets. Such a campaing would automatically zero in on interested customers, providing the opportunity for highly targeted remarketing at later dates. in this particular case for driving traffic to the establishment on slow days by simply sending out a text message.
